Burned Out Yet? How's Your G.A.P.?

It never fails to amaze me how entrepreneurs, you know, us dreamers, plotters and schemers of the world, don't recognize a most basic need to celebrate victories. The basic tendencies of entrepreneurs are to be in either "doing what needs to be done" mode OR "planning what needs to be done" mode. Working and living in this situation creates a rift. I call this rift the "GAP" for that space between the two. Neither situation, if lived exclusively, leaves time to appreciate what has been done. You know, the "Results" part of our business.

Now it's not the subject at hand that amazes me. It's that we (yes, I'm one, too!) are continuously pushing that achievement horizon out just far enough not to value where we are now. And I can tell you that the horizon is always going to be out there, just beyond the reach. This sometimes leaves an unsatisfied feeling that if maintained can cause burnout.

I can't tell you how often I've had a client working toward this horizon and never let that recharge zone be engaged. There is always present in their lives this gap between where they are now and where they want to be. You know, that mental horizon that continually gets pushed out because of new goals and insights and such. And it's a hard habit to break. I've created this moving horizon many times in my own life, professionally and personally. And you can guess the results. Major swings in the energy level forcing me in the low spots to recharge and get my bearings straight.

Do you find this concept "provoking?" Care to read more? Want to take action that will "provoke your success?" This and fifty-seven more chapters designed to provoke your success can be found here.
